You’ve come to the right place for Rockefeller Center ice skating tickets, dates, and other important info.
The Rink at Rockefeller Center is the most Iconic Ice skating rink in New York. And it is rumored to have started in 1939 when a depression-era skate salesman demonstrated his product on the frozen fountain in Rockefeller Center.
Today you can skate in the same place but in an updated and modern rink. This also happens to be one of the best and funniest sites to people-watch (it’s my favorite thing to do)!
So, how much are Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Tickets? In 2021 tickets started at $21 for kids and adults, $11 for ages 5 and under, and skate rentals were $11. 2022 prices have not yet been released. Why pick this rink over the many rinks in NYC? There are so many other things to do!
Our family visits this rink every winter trip we take to New York. The kids love to ice skate, visit the Lego shop, and watch the Saks fifth ave. light show while standing by the Christmas Angels, and people watch!

Skate rentals were $11 in 2021, but you can bring your own skates for free! These are my favorite inexpensive Skates from Amazon that I’ve used in New York. They are comfortable, highly rated, and around $50! Having your own ice skates in New York can save you a ton of money on skate rentals. Years ago we had these skates delivered to our hotel from Amazon. Then checked them as our free 2nd luggage with our southwest flight coming home.

6. Do you need to be vaccinated to ice skate at Rockefeller Center?
As I am writing this post in September 2022, proof of vaccination is not required to skate at Rockefeller Center. Masks most likely will not be required as the mandate has been dropped in public settings in NYC (aside from Healthcare facilities).
When the actual ice skating season is announced in early late October 2022, Rockefeller Center will officially declare its mask policy. But, I would assume masks would NOT be required for one reason. They are not required to watch a live taping of the Tonight Show which is filmed at Rockefeller Center indoors.

12. Why pick the Rink at Rockefeller Center over other Ice Skating in New York?
Of course, there are other options in New York City such as Bryant park ice skating or Central Park ice skating. We choose to ice skate at the Rink in Rockefeller Center because it’s an outdoor venue with the amenities of an indoor rink and shopping plaza. The other rinks don’t have as many food, shopping, or even sightseeing options.
We enjoy people-watching at the Rink, it’s our favorite free thing to do. The plaza has 2 levels with the rink located on the lower level. You’re able to casually walk by on the second level (street level) and look over the railing to watch people stumble, fall or show off incredible skills on the ice. We were all beginners and we all looked crazy on the ice at some point, so it’s okay to giggle inside. The best is watching 2 people on a date especially when one tries to show off slick moves to impress the other, and they fail.
One time we watched a little girl skate in the rain, or I should say swim in the rain! There were puddles forming on the ice and the workers were doing a great job at pushing the water to one corner of the rink. But, this little girl decided to zero in on the puddle and started swimming on her belly in rain. Im telling you, I couldn’t believe how long she kept swimming! Here is a video of the funny stunt:
