Dyker Heights is in the southwest corner of the borough of Brooklyn (in New York City). It’s a residential neighborhood on a hill between Borough Park, Gravesend Bay, Bay Ridge, and Bensonhurst. It is reported that the Christmas lights started in 1986. Resident Lucy Spata began decorating her house with festive holiday flair in honor of her mother. This soon inspired her neighbors to join in on the fun. Today there are about 150,000 visitors each Holiday season!

Attire:
Make sure you bundle up because the Dyker Heights Christmas lights dates in December can bring temps from 44 to 32 degrees F. In colder snow/rainy weather you will for sure want to wear a beanie or snow hat and a weatherproof snow jacket. New York is known to have freezing rain/snow throughout the winter.
Make sure you also wear waterproof snow boots with good tread so you don’t slip on ice. These Bogs are the best Snow boots for kids. They slide right on with minimal effort, keep the foot toasty dry, and are super affordable.
These stylish Bogs boots for women are my favorite because they are warm, waterproof, easy to pull on, and won’t break the bank.
You will never regret being over-prepared, especially when the freezing rain hits. Always check the weather report for rain, there’s nothing worse than being cold and wet. It’s best if you bring all waterproof gear just to be safe (Boots, Jacket with hood, gloves).
After Party:
After you visit the Dyker Heights Christmas lights, head over to the famous Juliana’s Pizza in Brooklyn (by the Brooklyn Bridge) for a warm evening snack (open till 9 pm). There’s usually a line to get in but well worth the wait for that perfect oven-fired margarita pizza!
